Use case
IoT Gateway Manufacturing
A connected device gateway aggregating sensor traffic from BLE and LoRa nodes, uplinking via Wi-Fi or cellular. Volume in the 500 to 3000 units per batch range, with 4 to 8 batches per year. Each unit needs unique identity, cloud enrollment, and OTA-update capability from first boot.
Typical BOM characteristics
- Application processor with embedded flash and RAM
- Multi-radio: BLE, Wi-Fi, optional LoRa, optional cellular modem
- Power management with battery backup option
- External or PCB antennas with tuning constraints
Test plan example
- Boot to bootloader, verify signed image enforcement
- Application boot to known service state
- Per-radio TX power and RX sensitivity check against golden unit
- Cellular modem registration to test network if applicable
- Cloud enrollment confirmation in DPS or IoT Core
Box-build scope
- PCBA into ABS or aluminum housing
- Antenna placement and orientation per RF design
- Cable harness for power and external antennas
- Gasketing for indoor or sheltered outdoor IP rating
- Label with serial, MAC, IMEI (if cellular), and certifications
Lead-time pattern
8 to 10 weeks NPI, 5 to 6 weeks repeat batch
